Let’s imagine that you have walked into a galley room and are facing this piece.

To enjoy this piece better, you are suggested to follow certain instructions.

First, COME CLOSE.

                    ---------------------------------->

Specifically, stand 15”(38cm) away from the wall, aligning your shoulders with the bottom edge of the canvas.

Once you place yourself at the right spot, you will find yourself facing this scene.

A meal is ready for you.

You don’t need a utensil to enjoy this meal,
becuase you are going to enjoy it with your vision for your mind rather than with a fork to fill up your stomach.

As Kim refers through the piece What & How (2021), we can interpret that the egg yolk represents what, from the question of “What happened?”, and the egg white would represent how from “How can this happen to me!”.

Since the egg in front of us has a clear yolk that is cleanly seperated from the white, it is safe to say that the “problem” has already been solved.

(Cognitive and sensitive process of solving a problem = Process of seperating a yolk from a mixed egg)

The color of the yolk shows the emotional reflection of the process. This one must have had a lot of tears and sorrow as its color resembles deep water.

There is a glass of milk on side, in a wine glass,
because we adults, need to keep our social dignity
up even when our inner-self is
as vulnerable and young as a new born baby.

Then, LOOK UP.

The red background looks hauntingly terrifying from the standing spot.
It intends to absolutely overwhelm the viewers,
with its disturbingly rigid and unbalanced lines and striking portion
even though the color of it mimics the red from a picnic blanket.

Just like how life as an adult looks decorative and simple until you come close to it.

Now, walk back.

How do you feel?

Does this painting resonate differently with you,
as now you have the full experience with the painting?

Seeing from a short sight and a far sight is an often suggested way of seeing an art piece.

As you now have obtained a way of seeing through this experience,
you would be able to have this kind of changes in your prospective
and have more richness in your way of seeing with other art pieces as well.
